In 2012, the EU received a Nobel peace prize due to its endeavoring efforts of maintaining worldwide peace.The European Union has a combat force with 60, 000 troops. The troops deal with a civilian and military crisis. The Union has developed a system whereby it can instantly deploy 1500 troops in case of any crisis (The Kingdom of Belgium, 2012). The troops receive training and can deal with peacekeeping missions, combat and search and rescue operations. Sometimes, they act an independent body, or they may team up with other forces from world based organizations like the United Nations (The Kingdom of Belgium, 2012).The EU formulates various policies that enable it to achieve its objectives. The security policy aim s at strengthening international security and preserving peace (Europa, n.d). The union makes decisions and provides strategic planning for certain operations. It enforces the rule of law by providing legal prosecutors, judges, and prison services. It also provides police officers for example in 2003 the EU provided a task force in Bosnia. The task force monitored and inspected activities by international practices (Europa, n.d).The EU prevents conflicts as a means of maintaining peace.
